Reopen the Steam client and launch the game from the Steam Library. Anyone out there to help I fixed it in Windows OS by rolling back to a previous version of my graphics driver. Being a noob at computers, I don't know how to fix this. Access("/home/stephen/.steampid", F_OK) = 0 Steam must be running to play this game (SteamAPIInit() failed). When I click play for the game, it starts up then it says: Steam API init failed.
